Dallas Texas Fishing Opportunities
DATE: 16 Dec 2009, 10:41 am / MOOD: Other
If you are interested in bass fishing than Dallas, Texas is a good place to be. The city has a lot of small ponds that offer good fishing right in city limits. Golf courses can have some amazing fishing. Access is another issue entirely though. You will probably have to go at certain times of day or certain days of the week. At some courses you may not be able to fish at all. Dallas also offers easy access to some amazing fishing lakes. Lake Fork is a relatively short drive to the east and produces huge bass each year. Lake Fork is world famous. Lake Ray Roberts and Lake Tawakoni are other good fishing lakes. To the northeast, Lake Worth offers some good action for bass and crappie. Coming Home After A Long Day Of Winter Fishing
DATE: 12 Dec 2009, 10:33 am / MOOD: Other
Coming Home After a Long Day of Winter Fishing Fishing during the winter has a different feel than summer fishing. In the summer you can have a casual, laid back attitude, go catch some fish, enjoy the weather and then leisurely head back home. Winter fishing requires more of a warrior mentality. You have to get all bundled up so that you don't freeze to death and you have to be tough. The cold can be brutal. Fishing during the winter is a much more solitary endeavor than summer fishing generally. A lot of fisherman aren't crazy enough to head out into 28 degree weather and tread through eight inches of snow to get to their favorite fishing hole. But at the end of the day, if you land some nice trout in your brodin net, and get to spend a nice, peaceful day outdoors, than it's worth it. Nothing is better than coming back to your warm home after a long, cold day of fishing and crawling into your cozy murphy bed. Winter fishing can be productive and is a great adventure.

What To Buy A Fisherman For Christmas
DATE: 03 Dec 2009, 11:56 am / MOOD: Other
Are you looking for a Christmas present for a friend or family member who is an avid fisherman (or woman)? I am a fisherman, and here are the items that I want for Christmas. Some are related to fishing and some are not: I am a really big fan of Bulova chronograph watches. The watches are currently heavily discounted at bluedial.com. The watches are very stylish and would make for a great Christmas gift. I am also wanting a good camera to take fishing pictures. My personal choice would be the Olympus Stylus waterproof digital camera. This is a camera that I hear takes great pics and is waterproof and durable. I could go for a new pair of waders too. My other pair is leaking a bit. The Simms G3 Waders sure are nice so that would probably be my choice. A float tube is a great choice for any fisherman. Float tubes give you access to water that you wouldn't be able to reach from shore and they take up less space and are easier to transport than a boat or kayak. The Outcast Fat Cat Float Tube would be my choice. The last thing I would like is a new fly rod. There are a lot of great fly fishing rods out on the market. I have done a fair amount of research and I think that if I was to choose a rod for Christmas that I would choose the Sage TCX Fly Rod. Come on Santa... hook me up!

How To Store The Fish You Catch For Eating
DATE: 17 Nov 2009, 11:55 am / MOOD: Other
When you go out fishing it's important to store the fish that you catch and plan to eat properly or else your fish can spoil. There is nothing worse than catching some nice trout or catfish only to have them rotting by the time you get home! I usually just go with a cooler full of ice. This will hold me over until I can transport the fish into a refrigerator. Some great Shallow Refrigerators are available at shop.com. Going with a fish stringer is another good method. You can keep the fish alive this way until you leave the lake or river. The only downside is that this is painful for the fish. I would rather just put it out of its misery quickly.

What To Do With Your Old Fishing Stuff
DATE: 05 Nov 2009, 8:42 pm / MOOD: Other
What To Do With Your Old Fishing Gear If you're anything like me than you likely have lots of old fishing gear laying around that you never use. Mine is just piled up in my garage taking up space. As I keep getting newer and nicer fishing gear my older stuff gets tossed to the side. Here are some ideas of things that you can do with your old fishing gear: Give it to a non-profit - There are several non-profits out there that take inner city kids out to do things that they wouldn't normally do – such as camping, fishing, etc. See what organizations are in your area. Garage Sale – there's nothing like getting a few bucks for stuff you never use. List it on Listia.com – A cool website that I am getting more and more in to. Listia is a cool place to get free stuff.

Make Sure That You Are Prepared On Your Fishing Trips
DATE: 19 Aug 2009, 7:57 pm / MOOD: Other
As fishermen we are often travel to remote locations to find the best fishing spots. We may be traveling on remote dirt roads and be miles from the nearest town. If something goes wrong it is important to be prepared. Here are some things that I do to be prepared on my fishing trips: I always make sure to have a tool box with me with all of the tools that I need in case my car breaks down or I get a flat tire. Great Plastic Truck Tool Boxes are available online at Toolboxes4less.com. The toolboxes are lightweight, durable and fit perfectly in my trunk. I also bring appropriate clothing for whatever the weather may be. The Pro Qualifier Gore Tex Rain Jacket keeps me dry in the rain and the Columbia Bahama Longsleeve Shirt protects me from the sun. It's important to have plenty of food and water. I carry food, water and all my gear in my William Joseph Old School Satchel.

Why I Like Fishing in the Ocean Better Than Freshwater Fishing
DATE: 19 Mar 2009, 10:58 pm / MOOD: Other
Why I Like Fishing in the Ocean Better Than Freshwater Fishing So… fishing in lakes, streams and rivers is great right? It really is great, however, I am not convinced that freshwater fishing can compare to fishing in the ocean. The ocean has a certain wonder to it and the fishing opportunities are amazing. My favorite thing about fishing the ocean is that you never really know exactly what you're going to catch. With freshwater fishing you usually have a pretty good idea. If you're fly fishing a river in Yellowstone Park you almost certainly are going to have a trout or maybe a sucker at the end of your line, or if you're slowly dragging a plastic worm along the bottom of a pond in Texas there's a very good chance that you'll be catching bass. But in the ocean anything can happen. The things that I have pulled (or seen other people pull) out of the ocean are amazing: large feisty sharks, stingrays, starfish, crazy poisonous fish with stingers that can kill you, and God only knows what else. The point I am trying to make is that you really never know what you're going to catch, and there is something about that that is certainly more interesting and exciting about that. Another obvious reason why I like fishing the ocean is the size of fish that you can catch. If you get lucky freshwater fishing in the USA than you might be able to catch something that gets into triple digits, a huge catfish or something. But that's nothing compared to what you can catch in the ocean. You can battle fish in the ocean that are truly monstrous. Marlin, tuna, shark, tarpon, dorado… there are so many large, beautiful saltwater fish. Fishing the ocean is a blast. Check out this grouper fishing report for an example of why. If you're going to be fishing in the ocean you will need some good fishing tackle. I recommend the Penn Senator RS Series Fishing Rod and Penn Special Senator Fishing Reel. Santa Cruz California Pier Fishing Report
DATE: 19 Mar 2009, 10:20 pm / MOOD: Disapointed
Fished the Santa Cruz pier over the weekend... and I got nothing, nada, zilch!!! I don't get to go fishing in the ocean at Santa Cruz that often, but normally the fishing is pretty good. I have never been skunked there before. I actually didn't see a single person catch a single thing the entire time I was there. I tried both squid and mackerel. I was hoping that some big fish would test my Penn Senator Reel and Penn Senator Fishing Rod but it was not to be today. On a complete side note, but I thought that it was interesting nonetheless, I did a little hiking in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains near Los Gatos and I saw a big alligator lizard, a large beautiful ensatina salamander with a bright orange belly and lots of slender salamanders. Pretty cool! By the way I am moving to Los Angeles soon which is a few hours south of Santa Cruz. So I will be able to fish the pier more frequently, which is great. I found some great Los Angeles Office Movers. Melrose Moving is one of the best moving companies Los Angeles. If you are moving to Los Angeles be sure to check them out. Their phone number is 1-800-431-3920. Call them for a moving quote today.

Isleta Lakes New Mexico Trout Fishing Report
DATE: 28 Jan 2009, 6:50 pm / MOOD: Other
I fished the Isleta lakes just south of Albuquerque for the first time over the weekend. It was pretty expensive I thought (like $50 for two anglers and two people who were just watching), but other than that it was okay. Pretty crowded, but still fun. Definitely not the best fishing that New Mexico has to offer but still pretty fun. There were lots of dead catfish that were floating or washed up near the shore. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this? As for the fishing, we had good luck with rooster tail and panther martin spinning lures, available online at Bass Pro Shops. I tried to fish a wooly bugger on fly rod for a while as well with no luck. I weighed the biggest trout on my Norcross Marine Sonic Laser Digital Fishing Scale XP and it weighed a little more than three pounds. I will be looking forward to fishing the ocean in Santa Cruz in a few weeks. By the way, if you are moving to the Los Angeles, California area than I would check out these Los Angeles Local Movers. They are a great company that I have had success with. So if you're looking for moving companies Los Angeles check them out. Call them toll free at 1-800-431-3920.

The Effect Of The Moon Cycle On Fishing
DATE: 18 Jan 2009, 1:33 am / MOOD: Other
Have you ever wondered why FishingRecreation.com displays the current moon phase directly on the homepage? Many anglers have a vague idea that the moon cycle might have some impact on fishing, but few know exactly how or why. Moon cycle makes a difference! You will likely catch more and bigger fish during the full and new moon. Here is a good article that I found that goes a bit more in depth about this: Article
