Shark Fishing Tips

I have personally been shark fishing for about 11 years now and I can tell you from first hand experience that it is some of the most exile rating types of fishing. There are many different species of shark that you can fish for and they are brutes, strong and mean. I am writing today to share tips with you to help increase your catch.

Tip # 1

First tip is quite obvious but is hardly ever taken seriously. Make sure that your equipment and tackle will hold up in a long intensive battle. I recommend using a conventional reel; a few good models are as follows: Penn 114 6/0 Senator (Good for black tips, small lemons and bull sharks) Penn Intl 50T, and the Diawa 900H. Try and create your own leader with good material, going cheap is not the smartest thing to do when shark fishing, make sure the leader you are using is suitable for the species you are targeting.

Tip # 2

Use forged hooks; if you decide not to go with forged hooks, when you get that huge 300lb fish on and you are fighting it for a good 45 minutes, there is a good chance that your hook will straighten on you.

Tip # 3

Use large baits, don’t cut your bait. Bigger baits equal bigger fish. One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to catch large sharks is cut the bait. Just put it out whole and watch what you hook into. Make sure you have the proper gear. I wouldn’t go floating a whole sting ray out on a 4/0 unless it’s a 5lb ray, use your thinking cap.

If you have tips to share, let’s hear them. I will be adding many more articles later, until then tight lines.

My onlly comment is that if your shark fishing, please make sure to use common sense. Also, take care of your gear and it will increase you success. You gear is only as strong as the weakest link. Your hooks, line, leaders, swivels, and rod, and real, all must be taken care of. Don't over spool your reel, if your real isn't rated for a heavy line don't put it on there. That's my 2 Cents...
