Lake Okeechobee Florida - Bass Fishing Paradise Lake Okeechobee is 748 square miles in size and averages about 9 feet in depth. It provides most of the drinking water for South Floridians, and is also great in terms of fishing. Lake Okeechobee is renowned internationally for its fishing for trophy bass and other gamefish. The lake is located northeast of Naples and is surrounded by tackle shops, marinas, motels and restaurants. Lake Okeechobee is over 30 miles wide and has a circumference of about 150 miles. The best fishing is on the western shore of the lake. Lake Okeechobee offers all types of structure to fish - from open water to narrow canals surrounded by native grasses. Fishfinders, such as the Hawkeye F33P Handheld Portable Fishfinder, which is good for smaller boats or kayaks, or Lowrance HDS 10 Fishfinder and GPS, which is designed for larger boats, are recommended, especially if you are fishing open water. Lake Okeechobee is especially famous for its largemouth bass fishing. More 7+ pound bass are pulled out of this lake than any other in the world. Make sure to bring your Olympus Stylus Waterproof Digital Fishing Camera to snap a pic of your trophy fish. Also bring a scale so you can weigh your trophy. The Norcross Digital Fishing Scale is recommended. Fishing is best (and most comfortable) from late fall to early spring. Crappie and bass can be caught in large numbers at this time. If you want to target monster size bass, fishing at Lake Okeechobee is the way to go.
