Northern California Fishing
Northern California offers a wide variety of fishing opportunities. A lot of the best fishing occurs in the Sacramento River watershed. In northern California fishermen can pursue Chinook and Kokanee Salmon, Rainbow and Brown Trout, Steelhead, White, Channel and Bullhead Catfish, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass, Spotted and Striped Bass. Many areas also offer good fishing for Crappie and some locations have good Sturgeon runs.
The massive Sacramento River has always been a fishing hotspot. The Sacramento River stretches 384 miles and drains a third of California's water. The state record King Salmon came from the Sacramento, weighing a whopping 88 pounds.
The Sacramento watershed encompasses many important river and lakes. Some rivers in the area include the American, the Feather, the McCloud, the Pit, the Yuba, and Squaw Creek. The best fishing lakes are Shasta, Whiskeytown, Lake Shastina, Lake Siskiyou, and McCloud and Keswick Reservoirs.
The Shasta – It is the largest man made reservoir in all of California. The Shasta Lake offers some great fishing for a variety of species.
Clear Lake – One of the best bass lakes in the whole nation. Possible the best in the state of California.
Folsom Lake – Even though there are many boaters and swimmers here there is plenty of good fishing. Bass can grow huge here.
The California Delta – The Delta has 2,000 miles of shoreline and can produce some huge fish. The huge size prevents it from feeling too overcrowded.
Lake Berryessa – A beautiful lake with crystal clear water that is filled with large bass fishes. Many Bass fishing trips has ended in a happy not in this lake.
Lake Oroville – California's best spotted bass fishing lake. Oroville is a challenging lake that offers some fun fishing.
