Striped Bass Fishing Tips and Techniques The Striped Bass is a terrific gamefish that is native to the east coast. Striper can get up to 50 pounds and are a beautiful and fun fish to pursue in both fresh and saltwater. In 1879, Striped Bass were introduced to California from the East Coast. Since then, they have been introduced into many freshwater lakes. Striped bass are also called rockfish because they often dwell under the rocks. They look very similar to white fish. This is a species that typically moves around in groups. For this reason, if you catch one striped bass there's a good chance that you will catch more. Conversely, if you're not catching anything, switch locations! A good fish finder can save you lots of frustration when it comes to finding fish. Check out the Norcross Hawkeye F33P Portable Fishfinder for small boats and kayaks and the Lowrance HDS 10 Fishfinder for larger and more expensive boats. A good fish finder is often not enough, however. You need to have knowledge about when and where to find the fish. Weather conditions are a big factor when it comes to striped bass fishing. The bass change locations depending on whether it is currently a warm or cold front. The bass exhibit relatively predictable behavior depending on the season as well. Water depth is an important consideration. I recommend having a depth finder with you such as the Hawkeye Water Depth Guage. Striped bass are a terrific fish that can put up quite a fight. They are fun to pursue both on fly rod and spinning rod. The Sage Xi2 is a good Striped Bass fly rod. If you're surf fishing for striper than check out the Diabolo V Surf Rod.
