G. Loomis Crankbait Series Trigger Rods Author: Chuck Elliott Have you ever wondered what it feels like for a piece of equipment to perfectly mesh with your technique? I mean really feel like you could not perform your task without that piece of equipment? Similar to the way a master carpenter feels about his favorite framing hammer. Nothing ever felt as good as using that perfectly designed, excellently made tool. This is the feel that G. Loomis brings to the game with its Crankbait Series Trigger Rods !
Fishing crankbaits for bass is a very effective and popular technique that anybody can learn, but few will master. Lets look at the equipment side of crankbait mastery. You should use a reel that you are comfortable with. Most people say that you should use a slower gear ratio reel for crankbaits. I say that if you want to use a fast reel, such as the Shimano Curado 200E7, use the faster reel. It's all about what suits YOUR style of fishing. As far as the rod I choose for Crankin', I'm a little bit more biased. I will admit that I struggled with crankbait fishing for several years. I got very frustrated because I could get the bites, but more often than not, the fish would come off before I got it in the boat. I even gave up trying to catch fish on crankbaits because I was tired of seeing the tournament win slip away as yet another fish got off. Then just a couple of months after I gave up crankin, I broke two ribs in a fishing accident. Unable to set the hook on a bass with my regular techniques, I found myself reduced to fishing with a crankbait with half the season to go, because with a crankbait, only a light hookset is required, if a hookset is needed at all. Needless to say, I got real serious about crankbait fishing real quick! As I was stuck throwing nothing but a crankbait, I realized that I needed to make every single fish count, that is, put every fish in the boat. As luck would have it, I was able to borrow a G Loomis CBR843C from a fellow competitor when I broke my normal crankin rod. He gave it to me with one instruction: don't break it! After using the rod for one day, I know why. It is absolutely gold for crankbaitin! Since I started using the Crankbait Series rods, I noticed that the fish I caught had the bait deeper in their mouths, and I hardly ever lost a fish. I attribute this to the action of the G Loomis Crankbait Series rods. The G. Loomis Crankbait Series rods all have a soft action, but still have enough backbone to handle a hard fighting fish. The soft action of the rod is the key to making it an excellent crankin rod. The soft action allows your crankbaits to run freely, resulting in more action on the retrieve, which means you get more strikes. The softer action of the crankbait series rods also let the bass fully inhale the bait without pulling the bait out of their mouth. And finally, the softer action of the rod allows you to keep the rod "loaded" as you are fighting the fish. This makes it very hard for the bass to throw the bait, even when it jumps. Yep, it took two broken ribs for me to fully realize what I needed to do to catch more fish on a crankbait, but it was definitely worth it. It's all about the rod when it comes to Crankin', and G. Loomis delivers with its line of crankbait rods! The rods are available online at www.BassPro.com . Chuck's tips: Use a shorter rod when casting shallow diving crankbaits to shoreline targets, a shorter rod allows you to cast much more accurately. Use a longer rod when fishing a deep diving crankbait on offshore structure, the longer rod will allow you to make longer casts to keep the lure in the strike zone longer. About Chuck:
