Fishing in stormy weather can be challenging; however, it can also be extremely rewarding. Fish will sometimes get more active as low pressure systems move in. Pray sources may become more abundant during storms, such as frogs or worms. One can often catch more and bigger fish during a storm. You always have to be careful of lightning while you're fishing during a storm. A big fish isn't worth being struck by lightning, even though I will be the first to admit that in the past sometimes I have been a bit careless with this and have caught some of my biggest fish. Make sure that you adjust your bait and presentation to take advantage of the stormy conditions. If the frogs become really active than you will want to fish with a frog imitation. If you're fly fishing a river than you might want to try a San Juan Worm – rain will often wash out the worms into the water and the fish aggressively attack worm imitations. I typically will fish closer to shore during storms as the fish are in feeding mode and lots of the time the most food is available close to the bank. Make sure that you are prepared for a storm. You will need a good rain jacket such as the William Joseph Rain Jacket, Bass Pro Shops 100 MPH Goretex Rain Jacket or the Bass Pro Qualifier Goretex Rain Jacket. Know that storms can often bring some of the best fishing, but that they can also be dangerous, so be careful.
