Sage Vantage Fly Fishing Rod and Reel Outfits Review

Taking a kid fly fishing is a great thing to do. It provides a constructive activity with room for advancement. Children really love fly fishing, if they are catching fish. My kids, unfortunately, are different. They really sink their teeth into all sorts of outdoor recreational pursuits. I took my son hunting, and he was out on his own going after deer with a bow the following season. My daughter may be spending her summer as a rafting guide.

Considering the way that my kids take to the outdoors, I was really curious as to how they would like fly fishing. I set up a trip for the three of us to fish in Colorado over a long, late summer weekend. My intention was to find an activity that would allow us to spend some quality time together on a consistent basis. I figured that if we hit the fishing right just one time, trying to duplicate that experience would become an annual event.

Most consider me a pretty decent father, so to remain consistent with this impression, I wanted to get some respectable gear for my children to use on our trip. My goal was to find equipment that was nice, but not so expensive that it would be a big waste of money if they end up hating fly fishing. I decided on a Sage Vantage fly rod for each of them. They were both going to be using a 9-foot, 5-weight setup.

Both of my kids were impressed with how light the rod felt in their hands, and they know enough about fly fishing to recognize that Sage is one of the top brands in the sport. Although this company is best known for their high-end rods, the Vantage outfit was performing well, and it retails for just $395 - that price also includes a very nice fly line.

We rarely even talked about equipment during our three days on the water, which was reflective of the fact that the gear I picked out worked just fine. I was so impressed with how well my kids listened to the guide's instructions, and we ended up catching lots of fish. The Sage Vantage outfits served their purpose well. It is easy to tell that these rods were designed to be easy to fish. Perhaps the best part of the whole experience - besides that incredible afternoon of fishing grasshopper patterns - was when my son and daughter asked me if we were going to go fly fishing again soon. There is no doubt that fly fishing will become another of their passions. A great place to buy the Vantage Combo online is Bass Pro Shops.
