Water Skeeter River Tamer Pontoon Boat Review

Every summer I like to head up to the mountains of Idaho to enjoy the many whitewater rafting opportunities that abound in the Gem State. There are so many rivers to explore, and my family has really enjoyed the adventure element of our excursions. Because I am also an avid fly angler, I often scout our summer rivers for potential good trout fishing spots to hit later on in the season. Unfortunately, I almost never make it back up to the mountains for an end-of-summer fishing foray. Last year I pledged to return to my favorite rivers to enjoy the brief window of productive fly fishing conditions available right before fall hits.

The most important gear requirement for making my secondary rafting pilgrimage would be a vessel that can handle some gnarly water. Sure, flows would be lower in late summer than they are during my family trips, but these wild Idaho rivers are still very challenging throughout the year. I could cut corners with respect to cost, if I was just going to use the boat for piddling around ponds and slow waterways, but since my life was going to depend on this piece of equipment, I decided to do my research and buy a high-quality craft.

After quite a bit of deliberation, I went with the Water Skeeter River Tamer Pontoon. This boat was built to handle heavy water, and I was comfortable with its relatively large size. Every piece of hardware and all of the components on this Water Skeeter pontoon were designed for strength and durability.

When the kids were all back in the school and the local rivers had enjoyed a brief respite from the crowds, I got away to the Salmon River drainage for some prolific dry fly fishing. The whitewater rivers of this watershed are world-class rafting destinations, but they are also all loaded with eager trout that rarely see a fly. I enjoyed three days of relative solitude, and the River Tamer handled everything the river could throw in my direction. The way this boat handles heavy water is impressive, but it also did really well in skinny water situations. I was blown away by this pontoon's versatility and maneuverability.

Many anglers miss out on some great fishing opportunities because they lack the equipment needed to get to where they need to go. I am now one step closer to being prepared for everything since I own a Water Skeeter River Tamer pontoon. Not only can I safely get down some of Idaho's toughest rivers, I am also more than ready to utilize this boat in a variety of calmer situations. If you like fishing unpressured water in total solitude, a high-end pontoon will take you where you want to be. The Tamer Pontoon Boat is available for purchase online at Bass Pro Shops.
