World Wide Sportsman Gold Cup Complete Fly Rods and Reels Review I was pretty surprised to see just how much it costs to put together a saltwater fly fishing setup. After pursuing primarily trout in moving water for years, I wanted to get a heavy outfit to bring with me on a trip to the Bahamas, but it seemed like I couldn't find anything decent for under $700 - and this was not even for top-of-the-line gear. It was looking like I would have to spend more time with my girlfriend relaxing in the sun and swimming than expected - poor me. Still, I really did want to see what flats fishing is all about. A few days before we left for the Caribbean, I decided to do a last-ditch search on the Internet for some gear. I came across World Wide Sportsman's Gold Cup complete fly outfits on Bass Pro Shop's website. I couldn't believe my eyes - everything I needed was just $379. I got on the phone and had the 9-foot, 10-weight package express shipped. After making my order, I did start to have my doubts. I mean, you usually get what you pay for, so I may have wasted money on junk. When the package arrived, I did not have the time to put everything together, so I waited until we got to our tropical resort. Everything looked great - from the rod components to the slick reel - so I booked a guide for the following day. My girlfriend is the best for letting me follow my passion for fly angling. I will admit that I was not fully prepared for the extreme challenge of saltwater fly fishing, but after a half day of my guide barking instructions at me, I felt that I had a grasp of what I needed to do. After a brief lunch, I immediately hooked into a nice bonefish. All of the anxiety had paid off, and the feeling of landing that bone made me eager to experience more. The outfit performed far better than I anticipated and I really never had to think much about my gear quality. There were no issues and I was able to get the fly where it needed to be. I ended up catching a few more bonefish on that day. My girlfriend let me go out for a second time and we hammered more bones and a few tarpon. What a thrill! I let my guide try the rod and reel. He said it was better than some of the $1000-plus setups he has used. For the price I paid, I gave the outfit to my guide as a tip and bought another one later, so it all worked out very well for everyone involved - except for my girlfriend.
