I fished the San Juan all day Saturday and I had a pretty good day overall. I certainly did not catch a ton of fish but I did catch a few nice ones. I had trouble keying into what they were feeding on for most of the day and only caught two rainbow trout in the morning and early afternoon. Later on in the afternoon, however, at around 3:30, I started to hook up into them every couple casts. They were hitting a size 22 midge with a cream body and a dark head. I got into 5 trout right in a row, with two of them being over 20 inches. The largest was right around 22 and according to my Hawkeye Digital Fishing Scale it weighed about 4.5 pounds. No one else was catching them, and not that I wish bad luck on others, but it is kind of fun to be nailing them while other fishermen are wondering what the heck they are doing wrong. I used my new Brodin Fishing Net and it worked great to land those big fish :) They stopped hitting around 5:30 or so and it was getting pretty darn cold so I decided it was time to crawl into my nice warm Marmot Aeros 3P Tent that I had set up in Navajo Lake State Park.
