just another day of fishin at the skyway piers?
well... my friend and my father... and me were at the south skyway pier since 1 pm on June 5th. it was getting towards 5 pm and the bite started to explode. my friend and me were catching small grouper.. ones that were about 15 inches. not much more was biting than the grouper tho. after losing numerous rigs and lines it was getting late and the big 1 was still to be caught. at exactly 7 30pm that night, my father hooks into a fish of wut he thought was a stingray. stingrays were thick all day there. but after 10 minutes of fighting and reeling in line... it turns out to be a 23 inch gag grouper. it weighed in at about 9 1/2 pounds. very exceptional. now were all glancing at our lines while my friend hooks in to a big fish. wut it was.. we had no idea. he got tired after the first 10 minutes and handed the rod to my father. after another 5-8 minutes we got it up and it turns out to be a new species of the day. a goliath grouper to be at that. as we look... we estimate his weight and length and we think it is about 30 inches long and is an easy 15 pounds. we stare at the goliath in amazement. and all this happened at about 8 pm. only a slight brightness from the sun as it was still going down. as we cut the line... the goliath makes a big splash of the top of the water and goes back down to its rock habitat. only later i catch a small mango snapper.. only about 7 inches. i unhook it and send him on his way back into the water. an exceptional day indeed.
