Catching grouper at the skyway is easy after you understand how to do it. You can get lucky and catch them on the bottom but most of the time your gonna get rocked up. If you really want to catch the nice grouper your gonna need a conventional reel that holds 300-400 yards of line. I recommend power pro. i use 80lb power pro and 100lb mono leader for top shot. I use at least20 yards of top shot. Use a 10/0 Gamagatzu hook. Get a sabiki and tip the hooks with shrimp and fish for nice big pin fish, grunts or blue runners.

After you get your bait hook the pin fish close to the anal fine and cast them out, keep your line tight and let the fish swim with the tide, keep letting the fish take out line, I usually do this up to about 300 yards. Now thats the basics, you will want to do this technique over the rock piles, now you will need to find out where the rock piles are there are several at the ver end of the south pier, and I have all the number written down but dont have that available. Just look at the pilings under the bridge and if the pilings are in the shape of an X there should be a rockpile out in front of it. Get your bait in the water and let it swim, sometimes you will have to reel it in a bit and get the bait swimming again. The grouper come out of the rocks and slam the baits, so when you feel that hard hit, throw the reel in gear and start cranking... and dont stop or your in the rocks. Good luck... I almost always get my limit out there. Of course I was taught by the best... SCOOTER... If you see scooter tell him SLEEPY said hello and watch him grin....
